VBM journalist to tell his ‘most meaningful story’

The latest story I’ve worked on for VoiceBox Media has been my favorite so far because it has been the most meaningful to me.

I’m from La Joya, Texas, which is located in the Rio Grande Valley, and it’s a highly populated Hispanic area located right by the Mexican border. The high school that I went to was 5A and was comprised of all Hispanic students. I went through high school knowing of undocumented students that were attending the same school as I and it was a norm.

I also knew that people would always cross the Mexican border into the United States. I did not think much of it until after I left the Rio Grande Valley.

I went home for the 4th of July weekend and decided to work on a story while I was there. I decided to focus on Catholic Charities in McAllen, Texas. They are currently providing services for undocumented citizens before they continue their journey north by bus. There are so many mixed emotions about whether undocumented citizens should be receiving services from an organization.

I was able to witness and learn a lot while I was working on this story, so I hope you all enjoy it! Look for the story to appear on our site soon!
