Colleen Flaherty

Colleen FlahertyColleen Flaherty covers faculty issues for Inside Higher Ed in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the publication in November 2012, Colleen was military editor at The Killeen Daily Herald, outside Fort Hood, Texas. She also has covered government and land use issues for newspapers in her home state of Connecticut.

After graduating from McGill University in Montreal in 2005 with a degree in English literature, Colleen taught English and English as a second language in public schools in the Bronx, N.Y., as a New York City Teaching Fellow. She earned her M.S.Ed. from City University of New York Lehman College in 2008. She lives in Alexandria, Va., with her husband, Zach, and two dogs, Noche the Chihuahua and Blue the “something big, rowdy and hairy.”

Colleen loves cooking, reading, movie-going and, above all else, travel (when she sees a plane in the sky, she wonders 1) where it’s going and 2) why she isn’t on it). She’s proud to be part of VoiceBox.
