Make a Difference Day: ACS Halloween Bash

By Paulina Fuentes.

Never in my life had I seen kids carrying candy bags bigger than their bodies. The Travis County Sheriff Office hosted a Halloween Party in the Austin Childrens Services building.

At eight in the morning a group of volunteers arrived to the ACS and started decorating the building to make it look like a haunted house while another group was setting tables in the gym for a meal that would take place at five in the afternoon.

Hiding behind 13 doors volunteers dressed in costumes waited for the children to knock on the doors to scare and give them candy.

In the gym huge tables will be set with plates on them and on a side a cook will be serving food for all the kids and their parents. Besides the candies the best thing for the kids was a table full with presents, and I mean full, each kid had the right to take as many as they want.

In case the kids didn’t have a costume the Sheriff made sure the volunteers brought costumes to give away and ACS also provided some extra ones.

I want to recognize the great job that the Sheriff Office and his volunteers did. They were all making such a great effort decorating the place, always in a good mood, there was no slaking, always working hard and after the event was done at 8 p.m. they cleaned up and left the place exactly as they found it.
