One of my internship duties for VoiceBox Media is making picture quotes to post on social media. I like to post at least one, once a week. I have to say, it is one of my favorite tasks to do. Holly has taken some really beautiful pictures from her travels; they make a perfect backdrop for inspiring quotes. I think picture quotes are great for social media, because they are eye catching, quick to read and easy to repost.
When I first started, I thought it would only take me a few minutes to make one. It turns out that it takes awhile to make them perfect. When I started making the picture quotes, I first had to go through all of the photos that Holly sent me from her reporting trips. I pulled out all of the photos that I thought would look nice with quotes on them, and saved them to my drive. Then I went to look for quotes that I thought represented VBM properly. Quotes about giving back, volunteering and helping others; soon I will add quotes from our VBM stories too. I picked out my favorite quote and then searched through my saved photos for the perfect pairing.
Then I needed to edit the photo by changing the contrast, brightness, curves and tint. I added either sun spots or a blur to make an area on the photo that would be the background to put the quotes on top of. If there is too much going on underneath the text, it makes it hard to read. Then I changed the tint and contrast on the photos again to make sure everything blended together.
We really want to catch everyone’s attention, so that we can get the word out about VBM.If y’all think of any quotes that we should add to a picture, let us know. Y’all are doing such a great job liking and sharing our posts that we’ve already reached 300 followers! Keep up the good work VoxPop!
