10 things you can do for the holidays in the Austin Metroplex

If the freezing weather or holiday decoration at the mall didn’t tip you yet, we are now in holiday season! Here are 10 things you can to enjoy the holiday season if you find yourself idle in the Austin Metroplex.


Anna Court Christmas Cedar Park
Nov. 28 – Dec. 31
Visit this cul de sac of Anna Court and enjoy the Christmas lights these neighbors have collaborated on.

Sights and Sounds of Christmas in San Marcos
Dec. 3 – Dec. 5
Enjoy a marketplace, holiday crafts, sock skating, carousel and more at the Sights and Sounds of Christmas in San Marcos, Texas.

The Nutcracker featuring The Texas State Strutters
Dec. 4
Evans Auditorium – Texas State University
The Ensemble Series presents: TXST Jazz Ensemble’s The Nutcracker featuring the world famous Texas State Strutters.

Dec. 5 – Dec. 23
Watch The Nutcracker performed by Ballet Austin, including matinees.

Fourth Annual SMTXmas
Dec. 6
Visit the San Marcos Downtown Square and experience SMTXmas, an annual pop-up shop holiday event hosted by Angie’s Sweatshop. All of the vendors are SMTX locals, many of whom sell worldwide via the internet.

Ice Skating at Chaparral Ice
Ice Skate at Chaparral Ice Northcross Mall & 14200 IH35 North.  $5 for kids under five including skate rental, $10 for adults.

Zilker Trail of Lights
Dec. 7 – 21, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Enjoy a stroll through literally a million + light bulbs illuminating the trails. Free general admissions on Monday – Thursday at the gate. $3 per person Friday – Sunday. Parking passes must be purchases directly from the official Trail of Lights website.

Zilker Tree Lighting
Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.
Watch the Zilker tree come alive!

Dec. 12 – 13, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Luminarias, twinkle lights, Frosty the Snowman and kid’s crafts, holiday food in the cafe. Admission is two cans of food. Located at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Zilker Tree Holiday Festival
Dec. 13 – Dec. 11, 6  p.m. – 10 p.m.
The city is hosting a free, family-friendly event complete with a lighted pedestrian footpath display, a major holiday concert and nightly entertainment, concessions and holiday fare.
